Third Brake Light

Trying to remove the third brake light to put a new red face on but after i remove the two screws there is a black wire leading to a black cap on the outside. Does anyone know what this wire is or how i can get it off?

thanks but nothing there about the piece im having trouble with, and if it helps i have a 2002 xlt

i think thats it actually. is it alright to just pull out the piece from the tube or is there a way to remove it

Yeah you should be able to just pop it off..
