Well, finally picked up my new Explorer - Kona Blue w/ black interior Limited - terrible dealer experience, but it's finally in the driveway! :chug:

Great vehicle and really had a fun weekend getting it cleaned up and crusing the neighborhood - under 200 miles and getting 18mpg around town. A little tough to get out of the drivers seat without dragging pantlegs in the door sill - could be tricky in winter....

But, this thing is a pain to wash - so many different materials, indentations and grooves - and when you go to dry it, so many nooks and crannys where water keeps appearing and dripping. And when you hop in to take a drive, water starts blowing out from the cracks around the window seams.

May have to start blow-drying with the leaf blower! LOL

Leaf blower.....?...I think you're on to something :p:

Yes the leaf blower does the trick start from the top and blow toward the ground I even use a water filter on my water hose for rinsing and always wash your vehicle in the shade!!

Been using a leaf blower for the past 5 years. Works great.

I pulled an abdominal muscle cleaning the front window. Holly molly, that's a HUGE piece of glass. I'm tall and have long arms, I have no idea how a vertically challenged person could ever do it!:)

Just possibly you need to increase your core workouts now if you pulled an AB muscle washing your vehicle.....LOL

Yes, Sounds like you need to do some core strengthening. Sit ups, the plank and alot of push ups. LMAO

I just do the unthinkable, I drive it through the automatic car was with the dryers/blowers at the end.

I know, I know but when you live in Michigan, you have to come to terms that your everyday driver is going through the car wash.

I have had the silly notion of hand washing all year round or spray car wash which does not clean your car unless you hand was but that day dream quickly fades when hypothermia sets in!

I do only take it through the same car was which is "the top end" car wash in our area. I have never had a problem.

We've got a guy in Milwaukee that does a hand wash for $10 or inside and out for $20!.....no freezing hands here....or crappy auto washes!

Ed Brown at Sir Waxer on HWY 100 and Coldspring. Does an awesome job!

I know I have posted it around here before, but I will again. We have THE best car wash ever right here, can't wait to take the new Ex there.

If you want to leave swirl marks all over your new EX, yea that is the best way.

I prefer to hand wash on my own nowadays and like the OP said the new EX is pretty hard to wash as I just did it for the first time this past weekends.

Well Jeeden if I still lived in Fairfax County I might take a drive over to Leesburg. But since 2004, I've been in Madison, WI. Too far.

I'll have to dig it up somewhere, but someone did a study on the particulate contained in the water coming off the cloths and out of the spray heads and it actually had less particulate than just plain water coming out of the hose for the water supply for the town. I think it was attributed to their water filtration system and the way they cleaned the cloths.

Anyway, I used to spend hours on my cars back in college. These days, I'm lucky I have time to go to the wash so for me the chance of swirl marks there beats salt and dirt sitting on the paint for 9 months at a time

Thx for the info. I know where that is. I will be trying this out.

Make an appointment so you don't get disappointed if he can't get you in as a drive up.....414-529-9669....tell him Greg's son with the EX sent you.

I agree 100% with posted thread guy.

"This thing is a pain to wash!"

Compared to what? It's a lot easier to wash than my 04 Ex!

Waterless washing

I just picked up this stuff called "Ezdetailer". Its a carnuba wax. I have owned my ex for 9 days now and this was the first "wash"Iv'e done. It looks great! With this stuff, you use it once (buffing it out with a micro fiber towel) and then you rinse the car off for 3 months after that. No soap required. Only time will tell how well just rinsing it off works, but wow does it look good in my driveway right now!
