You should be fine with 1,500 watts. If it were me, I would make a 0db reference CD and set my high/mid/low gains accordingly with a multimeter so that everything peaks at a certain volume, and I would set it slightly under. What I mean is, if you play a track normalized to 0db at, lets say 35 volume, you know your MTX is supplying 1,400 watts and your mids/highs are getting 90w. You know your equipment can thermally handle a bit more, so you should never have to worry about it blowing.
