Just wondering if anybody has any thoughts on Alpine 12 inch Type R subs. I'm thinking about switching from my beloved Kickers to a newer, more powerful sub. I plan on building my own box (my first one!) for the new subs that I may or may not be purchasing. Here are my options:

1) 2 12inch Kicker Comp VRs (2002 model)
2) 2 12inch Alpine Type R's

I would say go with the Kickers if alpine subs sound anything like there door speakers i wouldnt get them. I have a friend who has 2 12" Kicker vr12 comps (not sure what year model) He has it hooked up to a power acoustic 1000x2 amp and they sound really good in his firebird. I would go with the Kickers.

I just finished up a 911 with a pair of the R type 10" each with a MRD-M300 and 2 pair SPR-136A it sounded great. I really like the new Alpine R type speakers. I think the Alpine will be a more musical sounding sub than the kickers. Were the Kickers are a more of a bounding sub

Subs

I have used Kicker Subs on a couple of different installs and have always been happy with the sound/bass they produce. Not sure about the bad sound of Alpine door speakers as mentioned above, but my Alpine SPR-176a's sound great! I have a Rockford amp powering both the Subs and door speakers.

i think the type-r's are great subs. but so are the kickers. it's a tough choice, but i would get the type-r's. they sound great and they can hit hard too.

I'm definately going to be running a Kicker amp, so I'm thinking I should go with the Comp VR's?
