I having been thinking about getting some 1.25 wheel spacers to widen my explorer a little bit, but seems like had always heard this is a big no no??, I need some reasons why if this is real bad idea, and no I do not want wider rims allready have 15x10's. I am aware will be more wear on wheel bearings and balljoints but if this is only maintance which I can perform. This is not a dailey driver so does not get alot of miles, thank you for reading and putting your input.

I'm assuming you are talking about this style:

With a good quality bolt on spacer/adapter so should be fine. There are several people on here running adapters without any problems.

The only things to look out for while running them would be, as you said, increased ball joint and bearing wear along with more regular checking of the torque on the mounting lug nuts and wheel lug nuts.

I run ones like 90ranajo posted front and rear. Non daily driver. dana 44 front and an explorer8.8 rear.

yep those are what i'm, talking about, i think it will be fine.

the reason people swear up and down not to run spacers is from wayyyy back in the day the first spacers were built of low quality aluminum for sandrails/Baja Bugs so they could run more common rims than for the VW bolt pattern....and needless to say they failed....and often

with todays quality billet aluminum there is really no reason you shouldn't run em'........just get em' from a wellknown source:thumbsup:

Brad,
I have had them on my ST for over 5 years with out any issues, other than the morons at NTB who balance my wheels seem to always screw up at least one stud by putting the lugs on with an impact gun. But that is not a fault of the spacers. I am going to get some for the front of mine befoer our SMORR run on Halloween.

Just make sure you get a good set.
