Hey, I have not heard anything about throttle body spacers, but I was wondering if you could send any pictures of your truck to me. So far I have not seen to many Navajos like mine. I would be glad to help you with any other questions, parts, and pictures.
~Thanks

a throttle body spacer is almost just like a carb spacer. it just makes the throttle body come out a little further from the intake plenum. a spacer (both carb and throttle body) just changes the characteristics of the whole air fuel swirl and mixing. i dont have any expierience with them on the 4.0so cant tell you if they help or not. they generaly make the biggest difference on high rpm engines and the 4.0 usually doesnt classify as "high rpm"

VC,

do you know of a source. I havent found one , and was planning to make one in the future. The spacer will increase the plenum volume. It would take some testing to see what will work and what wont.

I thought of making one out of plywood or plastic. Either would be ok since only air flows through not liquid fuel. Should be an easy fabrication and 4 longer bolts and your off.

The thickness is the question, which would take some trial and error to determine, and a dyno for actual power increases. Another alternative is the seat of the pants results- how it feels. Some mods will increase the response, or "feel" of the engine with no measurable power gains.

Another project on my list of things to do- currently number 895!!!

Hmmm... on my ride you would have to modify the intake tube as well...as it streches to the very front of the hood... oh well

Sorry it took so long to reply, my computer hasen't been working right. Anyway I found one at wrenchhead.com that was listed as a correct fit, but I don't know for sure. The price of it was right around $100. I would probably try and call my local parts store for info. I've heard that you can get 10-15 horsepower out of it especially if you do it with a computer chip.

As far as trading pics NAVAJO46, I would be glad to as soon as I take some of my truck. I plan on adding it to the web page also.
You can email me at vcnlite@hotmail.com. Thanks for the info.

I checked the site out and didnt see one that was compatable... Im pretty sure they dont make one for the 4.0

you sure it doesn't fit. it says fits ford part # 8205. for 113.95

Its for a 86-93 Mustang. I dont know if the bolts would line up or not... but... even so... the mustang had a 70mm TB... if you buy a larger one for our 4.0 its only 66mm. Not only that... the intake hose wont clear the front of the truck with a spacer... so I would expect one soon...

i got an airaid throttle body spacer and it made a huge difference. it helped with torque a very noticeable amount and it seemed to have made it faster off the line i have a 99 ford explorer sport 4.0 sohc

Holy revival of a VERY old thread. 8 years!

I call BS. I've never seen any empircal proof that TB spacers do anything but lighten your wallet.

I drove a '00 Sport with SOHC and investigated this mod fully. Any performance improvement is psychological, IMHO.

Do you have any dyno data to support that contention?

i run the airaid one and a custom intake spacer made out of a old fuel rail and couldn't tell you if either one made a difference since i did everything at the same time.i know the intake one had to help a very little because its been proven that the longer intake runners add some torque but for the throttle body, i got it for a really good deal and it will be coming off when i put my new throttle body on because the inside of the spacer is smaller than the throttle body.if you got an extra $100 or so laying around and want proven power i suggest an electric fan!!
