Throttle by wire, questions

Wow, here it is two years after the last thread in post and it's really useful info. I just bought an '04 Explorer with the 4.0 and I didn't really notice the crazy throttle tip in at first then I started noticing it more and more. It got the point where I was constantly worrying about what was wrong with the thing. Then I find this post, and I can sleep again. AWESOME!

So I read through this and didn't see the answer. Will the dealer reflash the puter if you are under warr.? Does this affect a 08 4.0 also? How about my 02 out of warr.?

The 2002 and 2003 are not throttle by wire, they have a mechanical cable controlling the throttle so the issue and fix do not apply to them.

I have an 03 and i have hesitation with the pedal response is there a fix for mine?

Just the usual suspects in cases of a ODBII vehicle that hesitates on acceleration (in no particular order):

1) Dirty/bad MAF (mass airflow sensor)
solution - clean/replace MAF
2) Dirty fuel injectors
solution - clean injectors.
3) Low fuel pressure
solution - Replace the fuel filter
4) Vacuum leak
solution - Find it and fix it
5) Bad TPS (throttle position sensor)
solution - replace it
6) Worn or dirty spark plugs
solution - replace plugs
7) Bad plug wires
replace
8) Weak coil
replace
9) Leaky/bad EGR (exhaust gas recirculation)
replace

IIRC there is a transmission ECU update that may also effect this feeling of hesitation, but I've never had it done as my early run 2002 works fine as is.

you can also search my name and ebcornburner, he came up with an idea, and I shot pictures of it. You can pull a comb filter out and smooth a lot of it. Also, I am told that some of the higher end PCM flashers can edit the map to make this better. I'll know in a couple of months.
