Sounds like your radius arm bushing is going out or your coil has popped out of its seat. Check the coil, then move more towards the radius arm bushings.

hmmm

the coil is fine and if the radius arm bushing were bad would my shock be compressed and the bumpstop hitting?

Im not quite sure if I understand fully. Fill me in a we may get the ball going.

my shock on the drivers side just sitting in the driveway looks to be almost fully compressed maybe an 1 and a 1/2 of travel left by looking at it i can see where the bumpstop has been coming into contact with the axle houseing only on the drivers side i think my shock is weak and allowing to much downward travel on the drivers side they are high mile rancho rs5000s does that sound stupid or could it be that i dont want to just replace stuff that isnt needed

Yes that can happen from a bad shock. I would try replacing that one shock to see if that fixes the problem, if it does go ahead and replace the other three. You may want to try some edels. Those are some great shocks.
