my 01 sportie is making a thumping noise ,seems to be each time the tire rotates, its not bad but is noticeable,if I jack up the truck and grab the tire at 3 and 9 oclock there is some play, but the tie rod ends seem fine when I checked them,it allmost seems like the play is coming from inside the hub.anyone have any ideas?

It could be your wheel bearings ar going bad on that side. If so you will have to replace the whole hub as it is a complete unint and cant be serviced.

A new one will run $175-200.

Also have you cheked to make sure your lugs have not become loose? This could cause the thump and the movment as well.

Probably hub.

bearing but you have to buy the whole hub........autozone has the best price bet its the driver side............

I had that happen in a car I used to have, and here it was a busted belt in the tire. . Just a thought but I could be wrong also

take off the wheel and brake disk and try wiggling the hub with your hands, is theirs any play then u need a new one...if it is the hub then the other side usually goes after a month of so...mine was 2 weeks after i replaced my drivers side one

ha ha, guess I should've checked on here first. I changed the passenger side hub assembly and about 3 weeks later the Driver side went. I'll start checking on here before I go and just start changing things. This site rocks.
