Hey everyone im new to this site..Seems like alot of good information.

Anyways i have a thumping in the front end of my ranger..it sounds like a base drum and mainly happens when i come to a stop. Even after i turn off the truck it continues for about 30 seconds..

What could this Be?? Any Ideas..Suggestions??

Thanks

The next time it thumps walk around the front of your truck and listen to see if you can isolate which part of the vehicle the noise is coming from. Open the hood up and listen in the engine compartment if need be.

i know it's an oldie thread, but...

mine does it too, although, i've never heard it whilst driving - only when the truck is turned off.

honestly, i've only ever noticed it when i have a full tank of gas and it sounds like the gas thumping around in the tank. it will stop after a second or two after it's turned off, then i'll shake the truck side to side and hear it again. i haven't been too concerned with the sound, since, i haven't had any noticeable problems and just pass it off as the gas in the tank. i'll be filling up tomorrow, i'll report in if i hear anything to confirm if it's just with a full tank of gas.

hope it helps

EDIT - 1995 ford ranger xl 3.0l, all stock, minor rear modifications as far as helper springs on the leafs

my front end used to make a thumping sound when coming to a stop or hitting a bump... we found out that the tie rods, a arms and related things were going bad in the front end and were loosening up and beginning to break. so i'd check that stuff out because that could end up being a safety hazard.
