My 92 5.0 H.O. Thunderbird engine has a wierd set-up. The Power steering pump is on the top of the engine, and the AC Compressor is at the bottom of the engine. There is also equipment for a thermactor Air Pump set-up.

-Are the 92 mustang 5.0's set-up this way?
-Shouldn't the PWR steering pump be on the bottom for my application in an Explorer?
-Is the air pump neccesary, what does it do? Or is it an Caly emissions thing?
-is there an Air Pump on the 92 stock mustangs?
-How should I set the accesories up for use in an explorer? Can the accessory position be changed?

(by the way, the engine is sitting in my garage, not in the car....I bought it form the scrap yard.

-Sandy, I'm sure you'll have some input on this!

Thanks in advance! The more detail the better.

Sounds screwy to me.

My '92 5.0L from a Stang has the A/C pump on the top and the P/S below it.

The Thunderbird has the same front end as the 5.0L Explorer, I thought, and should be the same all around.

Sorry I can't say more than that, although there are some in here that will.

Good Luck and if I were you I would get to a salvage jard and check out other Xs and Mountaineers to see what has changed and get the stuff that will work for you.

Does your 5.0 have an air pump and all the thermactor tubbing?
I need to go out there and see if I can switch the brackets around.

Yup, the air pump is located on lower right side. I have the vacuum switch set for constant air flow into the heads, I think that is why I always pass emmission tests.
