I have a '03 Explorer XLT, 4.0 V6. I have a ticking sound when my a/c is on. If I turn the a/c off, the ticking sound stops. Any ideas? Thanks...

i have the same year truck and mine does the same thing i always thought it was the clutch on compressor engaging and disengaging .

Something I should be concerned about?

mine does the same thing....I know this is not the right answer....but Eventually mine went away! I dont recommend :)

My 03 was doing the same thing. I checked the refrigerant level, which was low, and added some R134 to bring the pressure up to the required level. Once the compressor started kicking in, the clicking noise could be heard. I scheduled an appointment at the dealer as I'm under extended warranty but the noise vanished on it's own before I took it in and the system is working great.

read post #1 last couple of sentences here... hopefully this helps if it's your rear air...
