Well its been awhile since ive been around bc i sold the X about a year ago for a 02 ram 1500 and the exterior is about where i want it so now its time for the inside. Already had components in it and i added a pioneer DEH-6800mp so now i need some bass to finish it. With the X i never had prob with space/subs and all that. It was jsut build it big for the boom. Now im limited to a sub that will only have about 0.65 cu. ft. So i need some help on what the best sub would be. It has to have a mount depth less than 6" in. and less than 0.65 cu. ft. Ive checked out some JL bc thats what i would like to go with and like the way they sound but then again i like some of the alpines and rockford fosgate but ive never heard either of them before so maybe some of yall can help me out with them.
Im open to all suggestions bc im looking for the best all round sub for the space im limited too.

Thanks Anthony

I'd suggest some shallow mount pioneers. I'm looking at the same for my F-250 where space is at a premium. I'll post up a link in just a minute. Oh, and these would meet your limited box volume requirements. HTH.

Yea i saw the kenwood "flat" subs too. How do these "flat" subs sound/perform, anyone?
Is kenwood and pioneer the only companys with these out so far?

Why are you limited to 0.65 cu ft? Do you have an extended cab or a standard cab? Before I bought my ex, I build a 1.5 cu ft ported box for a JL 10w7 behind the seat in my standard cab 2001 Ram. Anyway, I would go with the JL 10w3v3. 5.93 in mounting depth and 0.625 cu ft sealed.

yea i am waiting for a amp/sub combo i just bought to come in. Its an 8" shallow sub. It was an off brand but really wanted it for the box, it fits under the seat. I figured if i dont like how the sub sounds i would go with one of the pioneer shallow subs, they sound pretty good.

I have the quad cab. The subs will be going under the rear bench seat in the two storage wholes and the box that is built for the quad cab is only 0.65 cu.ft if i recall correctly.

i really like the JLs and prob will end up with them. JL also has a 13w3 stealhbox that replaces the center console and still has useable storage compartment in the top. This is what i'd like to go with just cant see $850 in it.

The Pioneer shallow subs are OK, the Kenwoods are slightly better. Neither really perform well in small enclosures. I have used teh shallow drivers from www.lorentz-audio.com . They're an importer for one of the Chinese buildhouses, and their drivers are probably the best shallows I've found, but they aren't answering e-mails of late.
I'll be going with Sundown Audio SD-1v2's in mine. They'll be available in roughly a month according to the owner. http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11420
That's the "official" thread giving information on them. Jake Fuller (Sundownz) is the owner. I haven't used any of his drivers, but his amplifiers are NICE. He was/is involved with Stereo Integrity also.

if you like the design but dont want to pay that much, just build your own box that is identical to the stealthbox. that jl sub will sound really good. i am a very big fan of alpine, so i would recommend a type r. i personally have a 10" type x but that has a little under 9" mounting depth so that will not work.

well if i could i would build it LOL. See it is an identical console replacement just with the sub build in the bottom so it would look just like my stock one...BUT the only prob with ur idea is i have about 1/10th the skill need to build it :)

it cant hurt to try. maybe it wont look exactly the same, but im sure you can make it look good. i have made many boxes, but here is a pic of my first one that i made to look like it came in the truck. its not perfect, but it definitely looks better than a big box in the back.

yea ive built alot of boxes for myself and a few for my friends and most have came out pretty good so i may give it a shot. I mean never hurts to try right. Ive been thinking about giving fiberglass a shot too so this may be a good time to try it out.

one thing you can do as an alternative to fiberglassing that is quite a bit easier, but will still make it look like the plastic molding on the interior of a car is vinyl. on the box in my car, i wrapped it in .5" foam then in vinyl and besides the color being a little off, the texture is exactly the same. if i had an easier interior color to match, such as black, it would be perfect. also with the foam, all the corners and screw holes and all of that do not have to be perfect. just another idea for you to think about.

Check out the JL stealth box I believe they make one for the Ex cab Rams.

Yea i have already checked into them. The 13w3 console is $850 and the 10w3 that goes under the rear seat is around $500 i believe. I can buy a dual box for under the rear seat for $100 and put either two 12 or 10 in it for prob cheaper. Thats why i was gettin some input on subs that dont require alot of air and have a shallow mount depth.
So if all else fails i i may fork out the money for one of these systems but thatll be last resort.

nice find i like that jl. Hadnt really had time to check out ebay yet so thanks for that link. i was wantin two 10 or 12 if i went under the rear seat but thats a w6 so ill keep my eye on it.
