OK I need some suggestions...

I'm beginning to get a feel for just how hard it is to lift a 2nd gen 4WD without dumping lots of money in the Superlift kit. After talking with Taxxman and SSOKRIA, the body lift seems achievable except for the relocation of the bumpers. I don't want to run a 10.50 tire because I think it would look skinny.

Taxxman gave me some pictures of his truck with a TT, 2 inch body lift, and 33s and he said he only had rubbing on his flares, which I don't have.

Maybe this isn't the right thing for me after all.

its all really easy. if you can unplug a wire harness and remove a bolt.. you can do it all with minimal effort.
the bumper are not that hard. i thought they were rather easy personally. the front's brackets were fine.. the rear brackets had to be modified slightly. nothing major.
dave was running 285s if i'm not mistaken.. which is roughly a 33x11.5 tire. i run these also and didn't come close to rubbing on stock wheels.

your truck will become more uncomfortable to ride in. i don't care what anyone says.. the ride is nowhere near stock with big meats and a body lift.

jason, the ride is not exactly what i would call a Lincoln Town Car when its lowered with big wheels. i dont think the ride would bother Hartman. :)

good point!

Man I am a confused individual right now! First I lower it, then I have plans to lift it, and today I looked at my truck and pondered if it was even worth it to do anything to it. It's got 132k on the original tranny, and it's going in the shop later on in the week for about a grand of work. I cannot keep spending that much money on maitanence, and lifting OR lowering isn't going to help much. Today I was looking at the dealerships at some 01 Sports, maybe a new truck will be a better solution.

I only had my 93 10 months before i started looking. Older vehicles just arent worth modding. Sooner or later, things just start going wrong and it ends up costing you way too much. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Why not buy a cheap little daily driver vehicle and then go crazy with your explorer? I would not buy a newer explorer and mod it for offroad, that's asking for trouble.

I know what you're going through though, it isn't easy. Good luck with whatever you do.

to quote George Costanza- "Im going down with the ship, baby!!!"

my truck would be worthless if it were bone stock. it is beyond worthless modded. im riding this one out. ive swapped vehicles every year or 2 since i got my license. for whatever reason, i have dubbed this one a keeper.
