ordered the shocks and front sway bar end links. mine are shot to say the least. i also ordered the blend door kit. turns out the actuator works just fine, that last bolt is not fun. im still a little skurred about cutting the plenum open, but the pics make it look easy. im guessing replacing the shocks are an easy job? i have done them before, just never on an explorer ( 98 xlt 2wd 5.0 ). im going to start soaking the bolts in pb blaster thursday night, then again on friday in hopes of making it easier. suggestions? tips? advise?

Air tools are nice for the shocks. It's been a few months since I replaced mine, but I recall dropping the spare tire to get better access.

got air tools, and i need a new spare tire any way. the one on the truck is one of the firestones from many years ago!

+1 to above. Shocks are pretty easy; definitely get the spare out of the way. Don't forget the "fifth shock" - pass side rear between frame and axle,

Probably should. Really helped with body lean when I replaced mine. Monroe SC2958; $27.79; Amazon. Also available from Rockauto.com or most auto parts stores.

Soak down the bolts with some PB blaster or something before trying it. Mine looked really rusty, so I had my mechanic do them. He installed them all for 40 bucks. Can't beat that.

the fifth shock? more than likely...

gotcha, ill pick one up then.

edit: the part number you listed is for a 4wd, is it the same thing on a 2wd?

ok, shocks are done except the 5th shock. turns out i need upper ball joints, lowers looked ok. also need front brakes and a set of tires. getting the work done, hopefully i can get some good miles from this truck now.
