Mostly stock Explorer Sport. I'm not looking for anything performance enhanced, mostly OEM. The more plush ride, the better. So what kind, and who has the best prices?

Also, is there anything I should know about install. Both front and rear look fairly simple (straight forward)

If they aren't too badly rusted you should do ok with the R/R.

Probably black Monroe sensatrac would be your best bet or if you want to go cheap the blue gasmatic(they will probably be very plush, but I don't know if they are the longest lasting).

Some places to buy are rockauto, you can find a 5% discount code online, or Advance Auto, use:Advance Discounts for discount coupons (up to 40$ off 100) and do in store pickup.

There is also a buy 4 get one free on sensatracs! http://www.monroe.com/promotions. That is a great deal.

I bought rancho rs5000s, with a sale and rebate I got all 4 shipped to my door for 140 bucks. I havent installed them yet, but they are not a "plush" ride from what I hear, its more of a firm ride, so maybe steer away from these if thats the case.

What about Motorcraft? RockAuto has them for $36 a piece, and I like the idea of having OEM Ford parts.

I had KYB on a Mustang and hated them..

Look at rockauto for sure. And motorcraft wouldn't be a bad way to go

Monroe Sensatrac are better than the stock OEM ones - they have dual damping - less damping for small bumps and stiffer for big ones. Overall this makes the ride on highway very "plush" (compared with stock).
IMO is better than the dual-valving system that is oriented more towards off-roading.

I've run the Monroe Sensatracs and I hated them. I've also run Rancho RS5000, RS9000 and Procomp ES9000, MX6. I liked the ES9000 the best out of all those. I'm still running those on the rear right now. In the front I'm now running Fox 2.0 reservoir shocks that a buddy who races 1450 truck tuned for me. None of the previous shock even come close to how well the Foxes work. However, I drive my truck hard offroad. For my rear I will be installing King 2.5 triple bypasses soon.

I have Bilsteins....they are not really cheap, but for $66/ea. from TireRack. I replaced them in pairs. I did the rears first. Then a month later, as money allowed, I did the fronts. They are GREAT. Not too firm, not too soft.

I agree, Sensatracs are NOT for hard off-roading. Or racing, fast cornering. But for highway, I think are better, softer.
And they get "stiffer" when needed (braking, bigger bumps).
