Timing Chain Broke

I finally got the motor out of the '99 Ex parts truck. Pulled the valve cover off and discovered a mess. Most of the plastic guide was swimming around the top of the head, and the chain broke. There are several large and small pieces down in the bottom of the valley. Should I worry about bent valves? It spins with no issues. I really don't wanna pull the head if I don't have to.

Yes, pretty good chance they are *****ed. Much better deal to get one from a wrecker rather then rebuild. Heads are disposable on these pigs. many options. Options are plentiful with it being in so many models and all being interchangeable. Grab a bore scope and have a look for valve marks on the pistons if you want to be sure.

I;d be amazed if you didn't have bend valves. The Ford 4.0L SOHC is infamous for this failure. You'll no doubt find lots of broken plastic in the oil pan too.

Pulled the spark plugs, and there was a mix of oil, antifreeze and fine aluminum particles all over them. I'm calling it scrap. Guess I'll see if I can get any $$ out it.
