98 Explorer 4.0L SOCH I've been told they have 3 Timing chains 2 in the front and 1 in the rear! is this true and is it a complecated job. I've been Quoted 6 grand for the job from a dealer.HA. In need of some serious help and direction here. I live in Australia and am not getting much help of any sort over here. I've been trying to track down some diagrams of the internal workings of these V6's but to no avail

wow, thats alot. I have heard that they have more than one, including one on the back, but when I got my quoite it was only like $1700 Canadian. Then I found out they gave me the wrong quote. I have a first gen, much cheaper. I would get a quoe somewhere else, that seems way too high.

my timming chain broke last summer and i had to get a whole new engine. not a pretty sight and expensive, but hey low mile engine and warranty

peter

you probably only need the front cassette replaced thats the big problem with them

if it is low mileage under 150,000k and been serviced inline with the logbook preferably with ford they have system where the dealer goes to ford aus and they may approve the repars to be done f.o.c. there is no extended warranty on this in aust as there is in the usa
if you want more info do a search some one here got theres done this way it took a while

if you cant find it e-mail me and i will se if i can help some more gavisan@tpg com.au
