Does any one know if there is a manufacturer that makes a gear set that replaces the timing chains on our Explorers. I was looked at one for my camaro (didn't ivest in it) also looked at one for my truck. I have never heard of such a thing for an Explorer but it seems if there is one made it would take care of the tensioner problem associated with our 4.0 SOHC engines.

I'm sad to say I haven't seen anything at all in the way of what you're talking about, though I've only searched the major online mail-order houses and some of the more common links in these forums, so all hope is not lost!

If there is, I've never heard of them. Keep in mind, the chain is somewhere around 4-5 feet long. The crankshaft is driving the chain at the bottom of the engine, and the chain drives the camshafts at the top of the engine. It's not like an old small block where the two sprockets are side by side. Completely different engine geometry nowadays.
