I replaced my tires a few months ago and the shope used some kind of cone shaped non-computerized method of balancing. I giess it worked on gravity and had a level on it. The only balancing machines I have seen other than this actually spun the tires on a machine which read out the correct amt of the weights. Is this method accurate because i swear the tires are not perfectly balanced.

you are kidding, right? you mean there is a tire shop near you that still uses the 'ole cone balancer??? dear mother of God...

it is highly possible that they arent perfectly balanced. go to another shop.

My dad has one in his shop....he doesn't charge people for balances though, but he uses it when a job requires new tires or something. He actually said he's never had a complaint, and it balanced my 31 BFGs just fine. Something that I wouldn't mind having around if I could get my hands on one cheap, but yeah, I'd go to a shop with a spin balancer.

Ok, this officially sucks, cause he screwed me on the price also. $30 for 2 tires. When I walked in I swear he said $8 and then when I got ready to pay him he said $30. I told him not to charge me for disposal because I was taking them with me and he said he didn't. I really didn't feel like sitting there arguing with him so I paid him and left with a nice peel out. I hate people who take advantage of others.
