When we bought our '99 AWD we had the bad Firestones on it, horrible tires anyway!
We had the tires changed at 28,000 miles and made them change over to Michelins, all 5 of them.
We now have 138,000 miles on the vehicle so the we have 110,000 on the tires and still have plenty of tread left for our purposes & just passed state inspection, we don't get that much snow here and mainly only 4X4 on the beach.
I always run all tires at 33lbs cold all year round, keep them rotated, never had a front end alignment.
