I plan on trading our Chevy HHR SS for the 2013 Ford Explorer Sport. One of my main complaints about the HHR is the uneven tire wear. It has traction control and we don't drive it like a teenager. But, it still eats the right front tire. The other three tires look new and I rotate them like Chevy says too.
Is there a tire wear problem with the 2013 Explorer Sport? Thanks in advance for any comments.

I got over 55,000 miles on the OEM Hankooks. Drove like a bat out of hell every chance I could. Only replaced them because winter was lurking. Only thing I did special was rotated them every 7-10,000 miles. Never rebalanced them. Did safty siping on them when they had about <10,000 miles to improve road feel/noise and wet/ice traction.

Tire wear, especially on one tire, is usually a sign that there is a problem with the alignment or other parts that control the wheel setup. I have not read of any instances on this Forum where this is an issue with the 5th generation Explorer. Although I don't have the Sport, my tires wear evenly, from what I can tell. I only rotate my Yokohamas and the BFG Winter tires when I change them for the seasons.
At my current rate of driving, it will take me another 5.5 years to get to Bill's total but I only have 23 months left on my 48 month lease. :D

Bill,
Intersting, I didn't know folks did safety siping of their tires. Did you do this yourself or was it done for you?
