tires and regearing (this probably exists elsewhere)

@Exp98 If you don't need it, don't do it. Lift, tires, trim, regear. It's a world of possibilities limited only by your budget. Check out my project for reference, I'll grant you that I wanted it as wide as possible so a lot of trimming was needed on mine that won't be on yours.

Best gears depend on what you're going to do with it. My factory 4.10s are "OK" with my 33x12.50s for casual street driving and the sand and gravel I frequent, but I'm sitting on a set of 5.13s because I want as much torque as possible. With skinnies and no spacers you might not feel the extra weight as much as I do either.

4.10's is "good enough" but some thing tells me you aren't asking hardcore questions about trimming and regearing if you want to leave good enough alone. 4.88s or 5.13s all the way.

Also skip the cheapo lifts and never body lift an Explorer no matter how safe anybody tells you it is. It may not be entirely unsafe, but it offers all the disadvantages of a real suspension lift without any of the advantages. Get a Superlift or a Rough Country for a Ranger. Do it right the first time and you won't have a mess to clean up later.

@Exp98 A lot of us get carried away with these projects and build tanks we'll never use. Undersand also that unless you use it offroad more than 50% of the time, you will likely find oversized tires and lift cumbersome and inconvenient. Others struggle to get in and out of my X and hate the noise on the road. The higher COG and grinding accelerations are very unforgiving on the road. My M/Ts also break loose easily on dry pavement, further limiting the on road performance. After the 5.13s go on, it won't even have decent gas mileage going for it.

I'll respect a moderate lift and 31" tires every day. If you change it too much, what you like about it might be gone.

Happy explorations! Let us see pics of your new rubbers!
