I have a 04 V6 XLT Explorer did a bunch of stuff so far that most recent was a traxda lift with help from a buddy that has a dream garage while up under the truck he says dude your muffler is still stock we gotta cut that sh*T outta here!! I have a nice flowmaster up in the loft we can cut that junk right out an put it on it will take like 20 minutes, well got up in the loft flowmaster 40 was there but it was a total freemaster 40 looked like it took a 100 mile drag down the street I said I would pass, was probally still worked great but looked like many speed bumps gave it kisses. Now to my question is there any notice in MPG or performance also I cant find a Air intake to save my butt but a muffler sounds cool an does it really help over stock? I know a Air intake an muffler go kinda hand in hand an well any ideas on the muffler or Air intake I am just kickin the idea out right now for advice thanks all Dan B

I doubt you'll ever recoup in MPG's the cost of the muffler. I'd do it for the sound. I have the 4.6l and have been wanting to put one on. Just don't want it to sound too aggressive. It is after all, an explorer.

Hey I do like the sound on you tube there is a couple videos of 4.0 an 4.6's if you want to listen the mpg an performance is what I am going with a good 5 months of the year I have a boat to tow an every penny counts when buying bait

You won't see much of a difference in MPG if at all. I have a 70 series FM and love it because it's quiet when driving but it's louder than stock and has that FM tone to it.
