:salute:The other day I was going through all of my Four Wheeler magazine. In some of the issues they talk about there Top Truck Challenge. As i looked at the rigs I noticed for at least 5 years there has never been an EXPLORER:exporange in the challenge. This is not right.
I want you the extreme wheeler of Explorer to sign up for the challenege and win the grand prize for all of use here on the forum.
If any of you think that this is something that should be done, post a reply in favor of an Explorer winning the Top Truck Challenge. :us:

i think this is a great idea. there are some amazing rigs on this site....

I've thought about this before but never brought it up. There are plenty of explorer forum members who have trucks that wouldn't have any problem taking part. I would love nothing more than to see an explorer from here win that challenge.

Some of those tests they put the trucks in are insane. Like pulling a semi with a dozer on the trailer, up a dirt hill.

Now I'm not saying some of the trucks on this site couldn't do the crawling or frame twister, but lets be honest even some of the V8 trucks on here couldn't tow a semi far without serious frame damage.

...i know paulb has had his truck written up several times...;)

ok, i just looked at the 07 trucks. ridiculous. stupid.

Man I picked up the latest 4Wheel & OffRoad today to read on the plane and I must say, its just not cutting it as far as in-depth info and such, which I've been kind of under the impression for a few months now .. its almost too "old school" and "vanilla". It still covers the new and current but just doesnt dig into things deep enough or describe the nitty gritty of things.

Compare it to Crawl and the differences are like night and day. And Crawl has this kind of more humble skating or snowboarding approach to the magazine layout/design -- which is more pleasing than large wild letters thats being blasted at you on 4Wheel & OffRoad.

As I said, I bought the magazine to read on the plane, but I must have read two full sentences in the entire magazine.. I basically flipped through it in maybe 3 minutes and put it away.

Just me $0.02

Do they really pull semis? I have never read about them pulling semis. I know they have the mud pit, hill climb, rock crawling (I think) and the well known frame twister. Most of the trucks i've seen on this site can chew those compitions up and spit them out. I just wish ny truck was able to do The Top Truck Challenge.

One problem is the competitors are chosen by popular vote. Not by the magazine staff.

I think some pick a POS because they know it can't win and will most likely be destroyed.

I would rather see someone from here in 4 Wheel & Off Roads Ultimate Challenge.

Even if they are choosen by popular vote, why haven't they been in the runnings. If we all vote for an explorer that is in the challenge then it will most likey win.

Four Wheeler narrows all the entries down to the final number that they let the readers vote on. I forget how many. I don't recall an Explorer ever being in the finalist to be voted on.

In 2006 the "Tow Test" was a 40,300 pound cement mixer truck and in 2007 it was a 50,000 pound water tanker.

yeah about getting an explorer into this comp... good luck

I mean the bare min for this years comp was rock wells linked with coil overs, and 44inch boggers were the smallest tires.
oh yeah and you'll need it to be powered by some monster...
a supercharged 5liter ain't gonna cut it, I'm thinking you'll need a 460ci

Wow, alright, I guess i shouldn't hold my breath.

And the competition itself is kind of unreal .. I mean for normal trails and park, the configurations of these rigs are just overkills or maybe even hindrances. Just look at Johnson's K3500 -- a bone stock Samurai with some off-road 30" tires can probably out-do that K-series in just about anything Rausch Creek, TruckHaven, etc.. have to offer. Of course there are some more sensible rigs like Hadden's S-10 -- which I wouldn't mind driving any day :D. I think a more attractive Petersen's event is the Ultimate Adventure -- now that one is just pure awesome.

I got my issue of fourwheeler yesterday. It was the toptruck issue. There was no way an explorer could pull 40,000 pounds. That's not off road driving, it a tractor pull. How is some of those events even a part of off-road driving. It's just showing that you have a bigger engine. I'm very dissapointed on what the Top Truck Challenge has turned into.

I like the low buck truck challenge better, it's mostly near stock rigs that they put through some hairy stuff for vehicles without much done to them. Give em' time they'll screw that up too.
