hello. my torque converter has quit on me. 1998 sport sohc 4x4 auto 171k. ive had the o/d blinkin for about a year and hav basically ignored it aside from pulling the code for torque converter sticking or sumthing, cant remember. so finally the trans gave out. btw this thing shifted flawlessly and never got over 200f per aftermarker temp gauge. so i look in the torque converter and theres a "ring of metal", almost like a key ring bent and twisted, down instide the hole. dropped the pan and the fluid was gray and smelled horrible, also a few period size pieces of metal in the pan. my question is do you think the tranny is ok? does fluid flow from converter to the pan where the filter would block that stuff? id hate to put a new converter in and find out the trans is shot. sorry for the long post and thanks in advanced.
