Torque on driveshaft bolts?

I'm putting in my driveshaft, and the Haynes book says torque is 12-16 ft-lbs at the T-case end, and 8-15 at the diff end. Is that right!?! Seems real low, especially since it was a mother to break them loose in the first place.

For the front shaft, it says 10-15 ft-lbs at the diff end, and 70-95 ft-lbs at the T-case end. The last one is the only one that sounds about right, to me.

Also, locktite on the bolts???

if it helps any miy book says the same for my truck for a single cardan u- joint. a double would be 70- 95 but im sure you know that.

BAH, just torque those bad boys down. This area is not critical to have exact torque.

I just get 'em as tight as I can (fear of the driveshaft falling off i guess )

The Mitchell software at my neighbors shops says 75-85 ft-lbs for the front and rear flanges on the rear shaft of a single cardian drive shaft on a first gen X.

I just installed my rear drive shaft, and I set them to 80 flt-lbs.. (thats what I did 75k+ miles ago, and they held).

I also put a dab of nail polish once I have them torqued down. If the polish "breaks" I know the bolts have moved.. The polish was still un-broken when I took my drive shaft down last week (had to change a u-joint)

Sounds like the book is wrong, then, huh. I'll use your numbers, Mark, they sound reasonable.
And I did end up putting a little Locktite on them.
