totally ripped!! all signs point to sugar..tell me im crazy

My 2003 explorer began a rapid pinging/knocking sound and started cutting out while highway driving as if when the fuel filter is clogged changed spark plugs recently and was running beautifully. Diagnostics machine says *too rich mixture *misfire on first 1000 revolution *and 2 more for misfire but didn't specify anything more..recently purchased just passed dealer warranty have researched and have no idea signs point to sugar had no cutting out issues service lights etc going on have been replacing tune up parts

The pinging/knocking could be pre-detonation (sorry if this is obvious.) So, too much fuel or too little air? Cutting out at highway speed, to me, lends itself to not enough air....look for an air obstruction.
After reading Bigrondos links, I'm less inclined to think sugar.

that misfire on 1000 revolution indicates a fuel injector that wasn't plugin or having electrical/connection issues. nice if you could indicate the actual codes, that will help us figure out where.

running your car in this condition for a long time will ruin the catalytic converter (too much fuel unburned)
