Hi all,,

My X needs a tow bar. the TOWSURE one seems to need the towing eye removing, and a whole new tow bar fitting.

However there seems to be a towbar built into the back of the car allready with a hole through it and the bumper step .

How are others towbars..?

Thanks Dick.

hi buddy! i'm in bristol too, and have noticed the hole in the rear step. can easily get towing ball to suit, but then appears to be too high to tow anything!!! can anyone local....ish suggest anything Maz.

In theory you can just fit a ball in that hole but as usual we arem't allowed to do that because its not EEC approved. So you need to fit an entire bar. Mine is made by witter.

Ours is a genuine Ford item - and it's weird 'cos the tow-ball is held on by 4 bolts, not the usual two!!! Seems to work OK With the AlKo stabilizer head on our carvan though!! :)

Just fitted one this morning to my X!!!
It was a Witter one I bought off ebay (same as Howard's). It was used and came from a car that had been scrapped but was in good condition, just a bit grubby.

Worst bit was trying to get the bolts undone that held the end plates on to the bar and getting the bolts undone that were on the car for the towing eye.

Otherwise was pretty easy - 3 bolts each side to bolt the end plates on to the chassis rails and 3 bolts each side to bolt the bar on to the plates.

Haven't bothered with electrics for now as I'm only going to use it to move a caravan from one field to the next. If I need the electrics, I'll add them later.
