towing package

I have a 1998 Eddie Bauer with 4.0 SOHC, and 4:10 LS.
All 98 and newer Explorers come with transmission and oil
coolers, as well as super engine cooling, and wiring harness. The only things included in the towing package,
is the Limited Slip axle (D4 3:73, or D2 4:10) and a heavy duty flasher. In previous years what was included in the
tow package varied from year to year, and even though you may have a D4 or a D2 rear axle, you may not have a tow package.

i too have a towing package it has a class 2 rated bumper step and a wiring harness in the bumper that conects to a factory harness that turns it into a standard 4 pole tow plug. i also have a 3.73 with limited slip as indicated by d4 on my door sticker

My Eddie Bauer doesn't come with the transmission cooler. The transmission cooler you guys are talking about is a little rectangular shape box thingy that sits in front of the radiator, right?? If it is, then I don't have it. I have the D2 4.10 limited slip and I know I have the trailer tow group. Oh well...

I don't think I have the towing package on my 95. My axle code is 41, I cannot find the plug for the trailer wiring harness that is supposed to be behind the bumper on trucks with the towing package, but I do have a small cooler right below the crank pulley. Is it an oil or tranny cooler??? I have been trying to find the way to wire my truck for trailer lights without the $40 wiring and relay kit. I was hoping that I could just get the plug in type that takes 2 minutes, but I don't think I can do that with my truck.

Can anyone tell me what "came with" the factory tow package in a 1999?

Thanks....

oh yeah forgot to mention my X has the mini radiator in front of the radiator too

How do you know?

Whether you have a tow package or not? I know I have the 3.73 LS rear, but where do I look for something like the extra transmission cooler? Would it be on the front of the radiator? How do I know if my tow ball is connected to some sort of integrated hitch (I know that might sound stoopid, but really...I don't know)?

HEY! Look :-) I have 3 Explorers now! :)

The aux tranny cooler is located in front of the radiator, and it looks like a mini radiator. About the trailer ball, if you have a ball on the back of your truck and it's not on the bumper itself, then it's on a hitch receiver, which is bolted to the frame of the truck, or "integrated" as you said.

DOH!

No...the ball that was on my truck when I bought it used, was on the bumper...and there is nothing obvious sticking out that I would be tempted to put a ball on...darn! Oh well...I am still gonna check out the front of my radiator tonight...Thanks!

and there is nothing obvious sticking out that I would be tempted to put a ball on.

You may still have a hitch. Look under the rear bumper for a 2x2 inch square hole. That's the hitch receiver. If you have on of those, then there is an insert that goes in there that holds the ball, it sounds like the insert is not there. And since you bought used, you may not have gotten the insert with the vehicle.

towing package

I have the transmission cooler and an oil cooler. I have the trailer tow prep. Now I don't know if this is a towing package. But I do have a "42" 4.10 non LS. I did not find the wiring that some have spoken about. I would love to find out why I don't have the LS!!!

It's not the towing package which is why you didn't get the LS. In '98 Ford started including at no charge what they called the "Towing Prep Package". It includes the tranny cooler and I believe the extra relays. The optional Towing Package tht costs about $250 added the LS and the wiring harness. Basically what it means is that all Explorers from '98 on up (unless Ford reverted to their old ways) includes a tranny cooler now.

Darn

Well thanks any way!
