Towing from Push Bar?

I want to put a push bar on my '91 XLT, the one from Explorer Express. It would connect to the frame. I was wondering if it is possible to tow from it like a tow hook.

It is possible but I would not advise it. You could possibly bend the push bar. I would recommend frame mounted tow hooks or a 2 inch front receiver hitch to tow from.

I don't think it's a good idea. See, these things are called push bars but actually they are just plain decoration in most cases without much of strenght. Some are relly neat though but still, I would not recomend towing. I'm currently working on mine so I can install tow hooks with it and a bit of a skid plate as well. Welding and some heavy gauge steel required.

Andrew,
Brian and Andre are right about most of the brushguards being for show and not rugged enough to use as a tow point. You can however get one from one of the winch companies, now they are built alot stronger and with the purpose in mind of being able to pull something, therefore they will work just like you want. Warn, Ramsey, Super winch all have them. Hope this helps. Dead Link Removed

And this is true. I even thought about getting one of those bumpers even with a winch installed but prices scared me off. I'd rather work on my grill guard and reinforce it. Winch? perhaps later? Tow hooks will go on as soon as I get my welder back from a repair shop.
