One of the things I have always liked about our Explorers for towing small travel trailers has been their practical, useable torque. Torque pulls. Ever wonder why diesels are such great pullers? They generate a ton of torque at a low 1600-1800 RPM range, with fairly low horsepower. I once had a Toyota that idled faster than that! If you study torque ranges, you will quickly see that trucks with maximum useable torque in the 2200-2600 RPM range make excellent tow vehicles. No one expects to tow a trailer down the highway at 3500-4000 RPM, which is the RPM range some truck reach their maximum torque. Hope this helps someone who is buying an Explorer with a choice of engines and axle ratios for towing. Mike
