yes. i have a 93 sport 4.0 5-speed and i towed a 91 explorer 4-door on an auto trasport trailer from u-haul, i am guessing a total weight of about 7000#. towed it for 50miles and except for the trailer tounge bottoming out ona bumpy dirt road and the lack of pickup, it did fine. just make sure:
1) you have a regular class III hitch, not just a ball in the bumper
2) you have trailer wiring, about 10 bucks but could save your life
3) heavy duty flasher, about 8 bucks and without it the wiring doe you almost no good.
also, make sure your trailer is properly connected BEFORE you even attempt to load a vehicle. u-haul messed mine up and it damaged my truck:
