Towing

I know the manual says 2900 pounds for the 5.0 engine. Has anyone towed 3 Atv's with their Explorer? I currently have a 2 place and it does pretty good. I never go far,50-80 miles tops one way. It is an automatic which is what I would worry about the most.
Thinking about buying a 3 place trailer as I came across a killer deal on a third ATV. What are your thoughts?

Get a transmission cooler if you wanna push it to the limit. You could probably do it. I can tow 5000 lbs with my 4.0.
Just make sure you're using a proper hitch and not the bumper.

yeah i don't see a problem.. use a proper hitch like said.. don't use the bumper, get a trans cooler and trans gauge so you can monitor trans temp and keep it cool. then you should be fine.. do you know the combines weight of trailer and 3 atvs?

I have been trying to decide on buying a truck to hold one in the back or the 3 place trailer for some time now. The plates for a trailer and the hitch to pull it with would be cheaper.
