I got me a set of Adrenaline Rims however tires were already mounted. First question is there a way to tell if TPMS are installed and if so how can I tell if they are banded or stem sensors?

Second is if the Adrenaline Rims are banded and current stock ones are stem can I just reprogram the system to read the banded and it will continue to read correctly?

Guess overall I just need some guidance from expert people on the explorers. I dont want to call dealership and get run around about having to bring it in when in fact I know I shoudnt need too. So please any advice on this swap or link woudl be helpful.

For the record I did try searching but pulled many forum post but never came across the answers I was looking for.

I did just read a forum about a guy who put 20inch Edge rims on an 05 Explorer then took to dealership and they synced it to the current TPMS. I can do the same correct?

as long as the TPMS's are the same STYLE (valve stem or Band) as what your truck had OE, they should sync on their own.

I guess I have just been extreemly lucky, never had TPMS issues in 4 sets of tires on the Monty. I hear horror stories all the time about problems.

disconect the battery, throw them on, see what happens... not like anything will blow up. the warning chime will drive you nutz till you get ti sorted.

Not sure how similar the mounty & explorer tpms systems are to the aviator one, but with the original ECU program the thing would bong the seatbelt chime 10 seconds out of every minute.

I got the ECU flashed with the latest code at the dealer, and now it's a single bong when starting up, and a message center message which can be cleared, and doesn't come back.

yep the same... just like the damn low tire pressure, the oil change, the seat belt etc chimes... Wish I could rip them all out... I just want to know WHICH tire is low. Don't that a tire is low, very low, or extremely low... then I have to check all 4 to find the culprit.

On my subaru I bought an aftermarket TPMS kit from Tire Rack a couple years ago, Its actually a 6-channel (like for a dually pickup) so that even my spare tire will chime when its low (I have a full sized matching spare) and the thing tells me WHICH tire is low and by how much... THAT is the way TPMS is supposed to work.

Well I lucked out and foudn a set a 20 inch adrenaline rims with tires for 450 on craigslist. Not scruffs or curb rash. I dont think the guy knew what he had. So for that price Im willing to put up with some tpms noise.

I assumed all newer models have to have tpms and I read something that Ford started banding the sensor in like 2008, but Im not sure the year these rims are from. Im going to have installed tomorrow and hoping it will sync up automatically. If not then Ill go to dealer.

How much does it cost to sync at dealership?

Man, that was an awesome deal. I spent a few months looking for a set, and the closest ones were six hours away and already been through 2 winters and the guy wanted $1200.
