TPMS and Tire Sealant

Hello,

I have a 2005 XLT Explorer equipped with TPMS for monitoring the tire pressure. My question is can I add a tire sealant to repair a small non- detectable leak without damaging the TPMS? The leak is so small that it takes a full week or more before it loses ~ 10PSI.

Thanks,

Joubster

Nope, Was told when i worked for Discount Tire that it would damage the electronics in the TPMS. Anytime we had a customer with sealant in a TPMS wheel, they had to buy a new sensor (liability issue with DTC)

Spray the valve stem with soapy water, seen plenty of leaks ther ewith the TPMS, may need to just tighten the TPMS valve

Thanks for the feedback Yomie. I'll check the stem for tightness.
