2006 Ford Explorer XLT
I just bought a 2006 XLT with 133000 mi and traction control and only have put about 100 miles on it. I believe the transmission is sealed like my 2003 was, I can't find a dipstick for it and cannot check the fluid level.

Three times I have been at a stop sign or light, pavement is dry, and the transmission feels like it drops into neutral and when I step on the excelerator there is no movement for 1 - 2 seconds and then the transmission feels like it shifts very hard into gear and the truck accelerates normally.

I have twice accelerated and the engine rpm increased but the vehicle moved forward slowly, but then appeared normal after a few seconds.

95% of the time it seams fine and never acts up once driving on the road, only when starting from a stop and does it in forward or reverse.

Anyone have experience or knowledge about this?

The dealer says it might be the electronic shift control and will make good on the vehicle and I should bring it in. Before I do so I hope to have some ideas about what might be going on.

My 2007 V6 Explorer just started doing the same thing. It's got 133k on it. I would also like to know if anybody has had experience with this. I plan to work on it this weekend.

The "dipstick" is actually in the transmission fill hole. Atleast it was on my '06 V8. If you use a wrench and remove the fill hole bolt there is a tiny yellow dipstick for the transmission.

I'd check the fluid. If thats not it my V8 6-speed had a computer update that smoothed out my 1-2 shift really well. Finally if thats not it then the torque converter could be going south.

The dealer has had my 2006 since last Saturday and has not called to tell me it is fixed or what is/waswrong. They said they would do extensive dignostics and take care of the problem; we'll see. I will post what happens when it does

If you have a dealer that will "make good" on a vehicle with that many miles, I'd give them all the time they want. Most vehicles with that many miles, even sold at a dealer, are sold AS-IS. Could need extensive trans work. If the dealer pays for it, you have a very good dealer.

The dealer did indeed make good, they rebuilt the transmission because it wasn't holding pressure.

The dealer is Walser Experienced Autos. It was purchased "As Is No Warranty", but thye give a 3 day satisfaction/return of any vehicle you buy.

The problem actually happened once on the night of my test drive, but we thought it was the rear wheels slipping on ice. I did not drive it again until the third day and it had several signifigant instances of concern that appeared transmission related.
I called Walser on the morning of the 4th day and they said they would "do right" and we scheduled dropping it off for them to evaluate.

I absolutely would buy another vehicle from them and recomend them to anyone looking for a vehicle. They are honest and demonstrated a great deal of integrity.
