2011 XLT
I just got a 2011 XLT over the weekend and the dealer said they would install a class 3 hitch where the normal trailer hitch package from Ford would go. Come to find out if you do not order the hitch package that piece on the bumper does not slide off.

I do not like the look of an aftermarket hitch underneath the bumper.

What parts will I need to complete a factory installation? I do not need the oil cooler setup, etc. Just looking for a working hitch and wiring harness were it is supposed to go.

I have been looking on fordparts.com at different options but I am unsure.

Any thoughts?

If you want to hide the hitch I would assume that would be the way to go. Next question is does the bumper cover come with the hitch access panel or is that a seperate part.....and does Ford offer a hitch after the fact that will fit in that position and are aftermarket hitches setup to go below that panel? It would be pointless to replace the bumper if the hitch still hangs below it.

Without looking at my vehicle, I can tell you that you will need the following parts plus possibly others.

The factory hitch

Mounting hardware

A new bumper cover

Possibly a new bumper

The easiest way to do this is get a VIN of a X that has the tow package and take that VIN into the Ford Parts counter and order the parts.

Have them look up the bumper part #s on both vehicles and see if they are the same.

Another option to think about is park your x next to a X with the package and crawl under and compare the two.

Thanks guys.

Just looking for some backup information for the dealer tomorrow. They originally promised a hidden hitch and that is exactly what they will be paying for.

just so you know if it was ordered from the factory (OEM) you would have got the transmission upgrade ect in the price along with the nice bits you want, now you have an under-rated spec for towing and you may overheat your tranny(had this prob in the past)

on the ford facebook page they also said that even though aftermarkets rate their hitches at 4000 or 5000 lbs, if you didnt get the factory tow kit, then the tow rating for gives for any aftermarket kit is 2000 lbs.

Switched out for a different XLT from another dealer.

This one has factory tow package. Same price, cant beat that.
