1st off...hello to all, I'm new here & am looking for some help. I imagine that's pretty much the way with everybody at least once! Well here it is...
I put a tow hitch on my '00 Eddie Bauer & tried a trailer lighting connector kit from Northern Tools. Underneath the rear bumper under both tail lights there are connections that would appear to be for trailer lights. Both have a red dust plug/cover. I've tried both sides with no success. There doesn't seem to be a special fuse for trailer lighting. What have I overlooked?

Welcome,
If you search for you specific vehicle, you should run across the correct specifics.
There are two basic options not knowing what the wiring kit you purchased includes.

Typical trailer light kits tap into vehicle tail, L turn, R turn, ground wiring.
extending those circuits into the trailers lights.
some also add reverse-

this can be done by cutting into the wiring, or adding a special T connector
that plugs in- vehicle specific

The other option that seems to exist on many of explorer based vehicles
are isolated, aux power relays, for each of the circuits, left, right may
be in the under hood power distribution box and tail lights under the
dash in relay box 2- as with my 01 Sport Trac. But I've seen descriptions
of wheel well / jack compartment for other models- I don't want to send you in the wrong direction, someone will have more detail for your specific vehicle.
Does your owners manual show any fuse or relay locations? Mine was incomplete.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think to look under the hood in the main fuse box. I'll have to check that. However I DID research my owner's manual to no avail.
