Where is the best place to go off roading in new york? I live in southern ny, in Westchester, but go to school in central ny, in Ithaca (an hour south west of syracuse). I am just looking for anything fun in the two areas.
Thanks.

Although i dont have any direct answers for you, there
are many places in NY to go off roading.
The Catskills or Adirondaks are always good bets,
but you need to make sure the land isnt privately owned
or something.
I go to school in Schenectady near Albany so maybe
if you want to try a place or find one yourself we could
get a little group together or something.
happy trailing!

So you go to school at Union College? I know where Schenectady is and I live about two hours south of that, and go to school about two hours south east of that. I am in Ithaca where there are very few good places to offroad. Are there many places up near Albany?

Yes, this is true. There are a few places near
Union, but you have to look.
Delorme maps are the best bet for finding places
to go. Me and a friend used one and found a trail
in the Catskills that was very long and had some nice
steep side trails. It also depends on what
type and level of challenge off roading you
are interested in. Most of the stuff i do involves
mud, hills, and rather shallow water crossings.
Im limited becuase i cant afford a lift for my
sport.
Anyway, the long of the short is yes, within a few
hours of Union, there are a few trails to attempt.
Just before school ended,
my friend found one that i havnt tried yet
that he said has a good view at the top and a nice hill
climb, so ill be trying that one when i go back.
I know Ithica, i looked there when i was college
searching.

I dont have a lift either and those are the type of trails that I am looking for. I will probably start searching for trails closer to where you are because down here, in Westchester, it is extremely limited. If I ever do go up to albany, which I do at times to visit friends, I will try to find some good trails. Thanks for your help.

No Problem, bud.
When you are around maybe we can join up somehow.
Its not often when i can see someone else
unleashing the potential of a mere 6.7 inches
of ground clearance under their blue oval.
happy wheelin and good luck finding trails

that sounds good to me. I will send you a message when I am going to be up there. Thanks for your help and happy offroadin'
