I have a 98 x sohc auto and was doing some light off roading in four wheel drive high and low ,when i noticed I could smell burning oil, stopping the car and turned the engin off I checked the engin oil ok, auto trannsmition,it looked very strange yellow and bubbles is this normal or could had been the transfer case, the car goes ok in normal conditions.
Also what fuel do you use I had a bad load of fuel and it nearly stopped on me, no more cheap fuel for me, now only use premium.

Don't use premium, it'll waste your money. The computers for X's were programed for 87 octane fuel.

What method of octane measuring do you use in Australia? is it (R+M)/2? If it is, what octane are you using?

std unleaded here is 92 octane...premium is 96/98 octane...i use std in mine

Yellow tranny fluid???? That's not normal. I think they prtty much all start out as red and then turn brown-ish when they get cooked by overheating, but yellow?

Water in tranny fluid will make a "Strawberry Milkshake", not turn it yellow. I am totally perplexed how it could be yellow.....

Maybe it's a cheap fluid?

Thanks for that info, I think I might have got a bad load of fuel, as for the trannie,I forgot to say the oil went back to the red colour after cooling,if I had got water in it, it would still be a different colour?

Sorry all i fell so silly after a closer look i could see that the dip stick has a yellow tip on it,god it horrible getting old and blind.
Thanks

Is this a joke...
