i have a dumb question, I need to service my trans on my 92 X but i need to know how much to torque the pan bolts when i reinstall, can anyone help......rob
You don't need to worry about torquing the pan bolts. The biggest mistake most people make is over tightning the bolts and crushing the gasket. When I do a tranny service I always tighten the bolts as follows: first run all the bolts up until they are finger tight. Then pick a starting point (a corner) and holding the ratchet by the head (hold the head of the rachet like a screwdriver, don't worry about using the handle) snug the bolts down working in a circle around the pan. Then go back around tightning the bolts 1/4 of a turn.
P.S. DO NOT use any type of RTV sealer on the gasket. The best thing I have found to hold the gasket in place is 3M spray adheasive. Unlike other methods of adhearing the gasket to the pan it doesn't matter if any of the 3M adheasive gets inside the pan since it will not affect the tranny.
