I have a '96 X-Sport. It's got the 4.0L engine in it. I am planning on tuning it up asap. I am going to change the tranny fluid and the filter. But I have a little problem. The end of my tranny dipstick is curled up. It looks like it was done intentionally. Is it suppose to be like this? I want to be able to tell if I have the fluid up to the full mark after the change. The level now is about a quart to high according to my curled dipstick. Is this the factory one or has it been altered?

Thanks in advance
Josh

Don't worry

Yes, the factory dipstick is curled at the end.......kinda like a ball. Oh, and when you are checking the transmission fluid are making sure that it is warm, running, and in park? That is the way my 92 is meant to be checked, but it might have been changed on the later models.

Yours is curled on your explorer, or you know for a fact that it is supose to be that way on a '96. i had a guy (i called and asked advice from a ford dealer) tell me that it shoudlnt be that way.

Whatta ya think?

It is like a circle right? That is how they all are.

Think mine is curled.

Anyway, whether it's curled or not will have no effect of the depth reading on the stick. The stick only goes in so far, and as long as you can see the fill lines and hash marks you're fine.

Mine is curled like a circle. O----------P
