I just bought a 1992 Explorer Eddie Bauer with 91,628 miles. I paid $1400.
I thought it was a great deal....The truck is mint except for the fact that when I climb up my mountain road, 6 miles and very curvy and pull into my driveway the tranny drops about 1 quart of fluid from between the tranny and the engine. Is my tranny shot....she shift great... HELP

Welcome to this forum! This is the famous front seal blow out problem. Check the coolant level, fan clutch, thermostat, and radiator cap. Dont climb a hill in overdrive, and install a heavy duty stacked plate cooler. You could enlarge the weep hole (fluid drain back hole) in the bellhousing to 5/16" if you plan on replacing the front seal.

Try to get that seal replaced as soon as ya can, my moms 91XLT started doing it just a little bit one day then about 100miles or so later I had to push her down the road with my explorer because the seal got so bad it wasn't holding anyfluid and broke down on her in the middle of the road. Good luck with it. And that aint such a bad deal because the seal costs I think we got one for hers for around 8 bucks from NAPA and if you can do it yourself then you did get a good deal out of it.

The radiator has an integrated cooler for the transmission which is cooled by antifreeze circulation. If there is insufficient cooling, the front seal on the transmission will blow out from excess pressure/temperature built up in the front pump area. The fluid expands when it gets hot. Check # 2 , and # 9 in my list of useful threads for more information.
