It really depends on the outside air temp - now, mines runs around 100-130 degrees. In the summer, in traffic, it will climb to 190.

Do not ever, ever, ever exceed 240 degrees. You will cook your tranny. If I ever hit 220, I will stop the truck to let the tranny cool down.

You might have an auxillary cooler from the factory. Most trucks do. Think about getting a fan to go with the cooler - helps keep things cool while slow moving.

Can't go wrong with an Autometer gauge.

Thanks-a-much

I already blew my tranny once pulling a uhaul trailer in July.

My tranny lines go directly into the raidiator...I dont know if that is normal or not. Im new to the tranny cooler Idea

Thanks

No Aux cooler at all, then get one

If you dont have an aux cooler at all and you tow or hit the trails I would definately get a cooler.
I thought the early Explorers 91-94 all came with Aux tranny coolers- but with two sizes the reg and the supercooling. On my Navajo wiith the super cooling I have a "Long" style cooler that measures 11"x7x3/4".
Its mounted on the drivers side infront of the Radiator.
I have seen a smaller cooler on Explorers which I assumed was the regular cooling package which has a smaller cooler in the same location. But you have no aux cooler at all- sorry about that, I thought they all do.

Im going to replace mine with B&M 70264- its the same Long style, length and height are the same, but it is 1 1/2" thick vs 3/4 for my stock cooler.

Its $50 from Summit racing part # BMM-70264 it should fit with minor bracket fabbing, and comes with hose and fittings to splice into the cooler lines.

Hope that helps some and good luck.

I appriciate that info steve-o im gonna stop by the ford dealership this afternoon and see if they can tell me if I have one or not

Thanks

Quick check

You can check yourself if you want.

Under the front of the vehicle you should see two black , 1/2" dia or so, rubber hoses going under the Radiator and up in front of the radiator. One will be attached to the steel tube from the radiator, and the other will be attached to the steel tube from the trans.

If you can see through the grill you should be able to see the cooler- its the farthest forward cooling device. It will be on the drivers side near the top.

Hope that saves you a trip

you know I have noticed, while working on my engine, what seems to be a second radiator looking thing but I remember it as being possibly on the passanger side...I could be wrong... but I just thought someone told me that as my heater core......it was of course a lot smaller than the raditaro about 15 the size

I do have to tranny lines that run into the drivers side of the radiator...one just undre the fill spout and one near the bottom. Im sure they are all like that

that should say 1/5th this size of the raidator not 15
