tranny fluid

how do I check the tranny fluid? There is no dipstick like for the oil on my truck. How do I check to make sure its good?

if you have a tranny without a dipstick, that means you have one of those trannies that you need to take to ford to get looked at and serviced. i cant remember offhand the model tranny you have but you can look it up in the drivetrain section.

Does your vehicle description as 91 Explorer 2wd manual mean you have a manual transmission?

If so, you won't have a dipstick like an automatic does. With a manual trans I believe you have to get under the truck, remove the bolt in the fill hole, and use your finger in the hole to see if it's full to the bottom of the hole.

If in doubt about the quality of the existing oil I'd just change it.

There's a lower drain bolt you'd remove to drain the tranny. Open it up and drain the oil then refill it through the upper bolt to the bottom of the opening.
