tranny help

So I hope this is the right place

I have a 91 explorer eddie bower

tranny seems fine when taking off will go through the gears nice and smooth
BUT
when in traffic and it needs to downshift it will bang into gear it does fine just slowing down and down shifting but if i have to step on the gas to speed up it will really bang into gear hard

also the engine runs fine but sounds like piston slap when taking off until i get over 2000 RPM it does not do this in nuetral only when in gear

any ideas ???

Welcome to this forum! Start with checking the fluid level on the transmission. If it's good, then adjust the bands, and the kickdown cable.

Check the vacuum line for leaking transmission fluid. The diaphragm in the vacuum modulator leaks after a while, and causes shifting problems.

does this vacuum modulator effect the tc engaging ? Im having a little delay on mine going.

The TCC is electric, and the vacuum modulator is vacuum controlled.
