tranny or engine?

I have a 1992 Ford Explorer with 155,000 miles. Just recently, I was driving and it was hesitating like it wanted to stall. When it finally did stall, I turned it on (turned on like nothing was wrong), as soon as I put it in drive, the engine just quit. Started up the engine again and quit as soon as I put it in drive. The engine starts right away but just quits when put on drive. also Does not want to keep an idle in drive or in any other gear only in park and nutral Is there any way someone can give me some suggestions on what to do, thanks.

It sounds like the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) failed. Looks like its time for a tranny rebuild.

What's your idle speed? If its too low, then even if it runs out of gear (no load), it may stall under load (in gear).

Check the simple stuff first. Is your transmission fluid at the correct level?
