I have a 91 XLT with Overdrive. Recently it started giving me a problem when I try to excelerate. Seems the more gas I give the more it seems to slip up to a point the whole back end of the truck starts to shake. I have only noticed it doing this after i have been driving the truck for a while and it was warmed up. Anyone have some insight as to what may be the problem and a posible fix? Other than rebuilding or replacing the tranny. If so, anyone know where I can get a good deal on a new one? Thanks! Oh yeah one other thing. What year and make models of trannys's other a 91 Explorer will fit my baby. Its a 91 with 4.0l and automatic overdrive? Thanks again!

Doesn't look good

Amigo, Read my threads in this forum. There's not anything out there for our 91 to 94 or later explorers that will help. You have an A4LD tranny, the stonger AOD's and there newer counter parts the e40D's wont fit our v6's and no one even plans to make adpaters. You can swap in a Standard T5 tranny but it's going to take some homework to get all the right parts. Also cost 3K in hardparts to do it. The real question is what do you plan to do with your truck? Will you need the stronger tranny? Mine lasted 180 K miles, but I have some more extreme stuff planned for my truck.

Good Luck

Well the most extreme thing I have left to do is add my 5.5 superlift. I don't offroad too much or to any extremes. Does it sound like an easy fix or a total rebuild. The truck only has 75,000 original miles on it?

Be sure you check your tranny and differential fluids before claiming her dead. I thought I needed a tranny rebuild, but adding one quart of tranny fluid seemed to do the trick.
