When the engine is cold the tranny shifts fine. When it warms up and you go from park to drive it will not really take off, but if you down shift to first then up to drive it is fine . Not sure how long it has been since the fluid and filter have been replaced or do I have bigger problems?

I would take it in for service, UNLESS the truck has super-high mileage, I wouldn't change the fluid. Fresh fluid is much thinner than used fluid, so your transmission could just die right out of the shop when you leave. It's a possibility (it happened to me once).

I believe this is you. When the car gets hot, the transmission fluid gets thinner, and won't grip as well as colder thicker fluid.

If it has crazy mileage and you haven't had it serviced in awhile, throw in a bottle of Lucas' High Performance Transmission Fluid. It costs like $12 and should help with these issues.

The correct fluid for your transmission is Mercon V which has friction modifiers to help prevent slippage. Lubegard sells a friction modifier additive. What color is the fluid? It's possible that you have bad valve body gaskets or loose valve body bolts.

Its a red color, Its kinda of foamy when I checked it

This chart is # 34 in my list of useful threads:

ok, not a seasoned mechanic. The fluid level seems to be fine and you recommended lucas oil. How would I drain enough fluid out to accomadate for the new fluid ?

What is the best way to drain?
